Originally built in 1909, the historic plantation estate was masterfully renovated in 2011.The exterior Craftsman style architecture has been preserved and embellished with an eclectic mix of neoclassical and Japanese vernacular touches. During the renovation, we took the utmost care to utilize sustainable building materials and preserve the natural flow and energy of Maui’s sacred land.

The Lumeria Maui Gardens are nothing short of a tropical and edible paradise. In the process of renovation, we honored the sacred ‘aina (land) by conducting ceremonies in honor of the ancestors. We then began to design the gardens, first by consulting with local Kahunas to make sure that we planted and honored the native trees and plants of Hawaii. We now use our gardens as outdoor classrooms for our horticultural programs, and feature a palette of tropical flora, fruits, vegetables and herbs.

We encourage guests to stroll among the grounds and even participate in the daily harvest. Join a weekly garden tour with Puanani Lindsay of Maui Cultural Lands as she shares her wisdom on the medicinal uses of Hawaiian native plants. Learn what tree the ipua cloth comes from, how kalo is pounded, as well as how to use kukui nuts to make candles and to season fresh fish! After you have nourished your senses, nourish your body at Harvest, our dining room.

We hope our gardens and dining experience inspire you to create your own garden when you return home, so that you can nourish yourself… not only with the food that you eat, but with the love of tending your garden.  We look forward to welcoming you home in the True Spirit of Aloha.
